Why Personality Assessments?
So, you may be asking the question why do I need to take personality assessments? What does that even mean. Here’s the quick and dirty on personality assessments.
One of the greatest things in life is to live, breathe, speak and do your passion. Whenever I was asked what my occupation was or what I did for a living. I always wanted to be able to say I do my passion! I live my passion! I enjoy what I’m doing!
These days I can say that. I can truly say I am living my passion. It was not always that way. I believe one of the worst forms of existence is waking up every morning dreading the day, dreading going to the place where you will spend the next 8 to 12 hours of the day. Truthfully, you can never get back those 8 to 12 hours. So why not spend that time doing your passion? To get to the fulfilled place I am today I had to stop and take some time to really get to know me. Not the me that others created but the me that God created.
Knowing what you enjoy doing, how you like to spend your free time, or what motivates you to accomplish your goals is all a part of understanding who you are.
Knowing yourself is the greatest gift you can give yourself. This is also the greatest gift that you can provide to an employer. When you know yourself, your capabilities your skills, strengths and weakness along with your personality traits you are bound for success. Why? One word.
I can’t tell you how many clients have said I wish I knew whether my values and the company’s values matched before I got too involved.
Understanding your personality traits helps you figure out what you like, dislike, your tendencies and how you handle situations.
It helps you discover such character traits, like whether you are a introvert or an extrovert. Are you a thinker or a feeler? It helps you understand why you prefer one thing over another. It may help to explain why an introverted, thinker personality may enjoy working in an accounting firm much more than a extroverted, feeler personality.
While we stress there are no absolutes and personality assessments are only part of the knowledge equation, they are certainly great at helping you figure out the best career choice.
As you consider your values which are those things that are important to you. Your interests; those things that excite you. Your personality traits; those things that make you who you are, you can begin to build your own career profile which will help you make sound decisions about your professional life, and or market yourself to employers during your job search.
